Day 5: Adonai Yahweh -- "Sovereign Lord"

He is before all things and in Him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17

A literal translation of Adonai Yahweh would be “Lord, Lord”, however, the translators have chosen to use the word “sovereign” to represent, “Adonai Yahweh.” This translation indicates that the Lord is the supreme Lord .All things are under His rule and control. Nothing happens in this universe without his direction or permission. The name “Sovereign Lord” indicates that He is the God who works not just some things, but ALL things after the counsel of His own will.

God is sovereign over the entire universe.
The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all. Psalm 103:19

God is sovereign over all of nature
God is sovereign over angels
Do you not think I cannot call on my Father, and He will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels. Matthew 26:53

God is sovereign over Satan
God is sovereign over human beings
I cry out to God Most High, to God, who vindicates me. Psalm 57:2
I raised you up for this very purpose, that I might display my power in you and that my name might be proclaimed in all the earth. Romans 9:17

God is sovereign over animals
All creatures look to you to give them their food at the proper time. When you give it to them, they gather it up; when you open your hand, they are satisfied with good things. When you hide your face, they are terrified; when you take away their breath, they die and return to dust. When you send your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground. Psalm 104:27-30

God is sovereign over chance
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside of your Father’s care. Matthew 10:29

God is sovereign over politics
Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. He changes times and seasons; he disposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning. Daniel 2:20-21

God is sovereign over the free acts of man
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps. Proverbs 16:9

God is sovereign over sin
You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

God is sovereign over salvation
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
He has saved us and called us to a holy life – not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time. 2 Timothy 1:9

I love the fact that God is sovereign. That very thought is the source of eternal hope, confidence, comfort and joy. His sovereignty means I can trust Him. When the ugliness of sin seems more than I can bear; when my heart is broken; or when everything seems out of my control; I can anchor my trust in Him. I can rest in the knowledge that when all is said and done, He is in control and holds me tightly in the palm of His hand. He will accomplish His purpose. He is sovereign. He is God.

Happy Fall yall! I just really felt the need to say that. I love Fall…football season….soups….chill in the air….and HALLOWEEN!!

Halloween kicked off a week early this year at the Miller’s house. Amy and Alan host a Halloween party every year and this time it had a 70s theme. I had not been putting together my costume because I had been holding out hope that I would be in the Lovliest Village on the Plains watching the good Tiger stomp the Bayou Bengals, but it didn’t happen. That meant though at noon I had no idea what I was going to wear to the party and the game came on at 2:30 so I had to figure something out quickly to be ready to go before the trees were white at Toomers! One phone call to mom and it was done. She arrived a short time later with dresses that my Lalou had worn in the 70s. I chose an orange one and the rest is polysester history.

We have a pumpkin carving tradition in Supper Club, so the Wednesday night before Halloween we all carved our own original creations on K-Dilla’s back porch. We started this tradition 3 years ago, which by the way, was the first time I ever carved a pumpkin. I don’t have pictures from this year but I’ll share a few from the past couple of years just to give you an idea of the depth of our talent.

Friday afternoon I had some very sweet friends come to school to help my kids carve pumpkins. We tried doing this last year and quickly realized that everyone needed their own helper, so amazing friends to the rescue. Each of my kids left that day with their very own pumpkin! It was basically the greatest Fun Friday ever….I wonder if they want to come back for gingerbread houses at Christmas?????

I had little girl who was absent, but she was very excited to see that she still got her own pumpkin when she came back to school. Thanks Ryan! Thank you Jason, Ryan, Amber, Callie and Lesley!!! And yes, we dressed up for Halloween, I don't usually wear Lalou's dresses and go-go boots to school on Friday!

On to the main event….October 30th, the 3rd Annual Monster Mash GAP Halloween Party. This has gotten serious over the last couple of years, especially once prize money got involved. The Supper Club girls decided to go as the Golden Girls (by the way, Sophia is wearing another one of Lalou’s dresses and I am wearing the dress she wore in my parents’ wedding): Now we planned this weeks ago, but of course we were last minute and by last minute I mean Saturday afternoon putting all the finishing touches on our costumes.
